EASTERN REGION AT A GLANCE

The Eastern region was created out of the Eastern province as it was called, with three major ethnic groups: the Akan, the Krobo and the Guan. The Akan group is by far the most predominant. The Akwamu, Akyem, Kwahu, Akwapim and Juaben are the ethnic groups found in the region. It lies between latitude 6 and 7 North and longitude 1.30 East and 0.30 West, surrounded by five other regions. Central and Greater Accra regions are to the south, Volta region to the East and Brong Ahafo and Ashanti regions to the North and West respectively. It has an area of 19,323 sq. KM which represents 8 percent of the total area of Ghana.
