Ghana Ascends On FIFA Rankings

Ghana moved a step up on the latest Federation of International Football Association (FIFA/Coco Cola) rankings released yesterday, April 9, 2008.  Ghana moved to the 14th position in the world and stayed number one in Africa.

Information gathered by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Sports from FIFA website indicates that Ghana's Black Stars who became the biggest mover in February by ascending from 43 to 14 lost their grounds to 15th in the March rankings.

The latest rankings mean that Ghana was not affected by their 2-1 loss to Mexico in an international friendly late last month.

The West Africans moved to 14 a few weeks after placing third at the 26th African Cup of Nations that ended in Accra on February 10.

Cameroon and Cote d'Ivoire placed 17 and 22 respectively in the world and are second and third on the African continent.

African Champions, Egypt, however are ranked fourth on the continent, lie at the 30th position in the world.
