Following the national launch of the Millennium Challenge Account in Savelugu, the Millennium Development Authority has commenced its series of projects in the Savelugu/Nanton District in the Northern Region of the Country.

The community in question is Janjori-Kukuo, where a Junior High School is undergoing rehabilitation. Other four communities in the district benefiting from this gesture include, Zoggu, Diare, Savelugu and Tampion..

The District Chief Executive, Mr A.A.A. Atori, said the implementation of the Millennium Challenge Accounts projects in the district would open-up the area for greater investments. He appealed to the Millennium Development Authority to focus on micro-finance packages for the enhancement of domestic business to curtail rural-urban migration.

The district education directorate, which was to play a pivotal role for the successful execution of the projects, was of the view that both pupils and teachers alike risked their lives by studying in dilapidated buildings and appealed to the benefactors for more of such assistance.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Millennium Development Authority, Dr. Martin Esson Benjamin, who cut the sod for the commencement of projects disclosed that MIDA had decided to use Savelugu/Nanton as a pilot district for the agriculture intervention programme. He advised the people to take land title registration seriously so as to make land acquisition easier for developmental projects.

He said MIDA had a responsibility to improve on transportation, water, electricity, agriculture and schools, therefore, the district would be a beneficiary of every bit of these facilities.

He cited the water expansion project from Dalung to the district being undertaken by MIDA and hinted that 20 more schools would be built in the district. He urged the farmers to form co-operatives to make acquisition of loans in financial institutions easy for them.

A district advisory committee made up of about 24 members to see to the implementation of MIDAs projects was sworn in by Dr Martin Esson Benjamin.
