National Service Postings ReleasedThe National Service Scheme (NSS) whose core function is to cater for short supply of man-power in the country especially in the rural areas has yesterday released the postings for the 2008/2009 Service year, here in Accra. The NSS postings, that have become a yearly routine since its inception in 1980 has been contributing to the socio-economic-development of the country by taking service personnel to places where their services are most needed. The Executive Director of Ghana National Service Scheme (GNSS), Mr Kofi Obiri Yeboah, speaking to the press said, in pursuant to government’s policy of providing quality education for Ghanaians, 60%-70% of service personnel have been posted to the educational sector so as to meet the shortfall in supply of teachers to the rural areas. Mr Obiri Yeboah said, “during the 2007/2008 year, the scheme posted about 32,480 personnel to all the regions . "But this year, we have an increasing number of 34,000 prospective personnel to be posted throughout the country”. He encouraged prospective personnel to see their postings as a call to national duty and must accept it in good faith rather than seeing it as a form of punishment.
