The Tano South District Chief Executive, Hon Osei Sekyere Bota has called on women in the Tano South District to re-organise  to enable them compete with men in every position they find themselves.

Making the call the District Chief Executive said it is about time women are encouraged to become more actively involved in all sphere of society’s endeavours, especially in roles of decision making and governance.

He said this at a forum organized by ABANTU, a non-governmental organisation in conjunction with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) at Bechem in the Tano South District.  According to him, women are able to decipher issues and make assertive decisions whenever they are put in higher positions.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Director of NCCE , Mr Issah Abudulai Nasagri, said the aim of the forum was to mobilise support for women parliamentary candidates for election 2008.

He revealed that due to the low percentage of women in parliament, there is the imperative need to make deliberate efforts to redress the imbalance in power relations in which women are embedded.

Mr Abudulai Nasagri outlined some obstacles such as discriminatory practices and inequalities in the public and domestic set ups  that hinder participation of women in decision making and governance.

He stated that to overcome these obstacles, women should be encouraged and supported to participate in the democratic process.  Mr Issah Abudulai Nasagri therfore called on the women to exercise tolerance before ,during and after the elections. and appealed to other organisations to raise funds to support women in politics.

The Mawerehemaa of Bechem Traditional Council, Nana Serwaah Birago I who chaired the function tasked the women to support their colleagues who wished to participate in politics.

She said women are important in society and therefore need to be given important roles to play.

Nana Serwaah Birago I said if women are given positions in parliament, issues concerning women and children will be tackled easily.  and advised the women to be each others keeper.
