President Kufuor Attends AU Summit In EgyptPresident J. A. Kufuor will leave Accra on Saturday, June 28, 2008 for Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, to attend the Eleventh Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union from June 30 to July 1, 2008.
The summit will be President Kufuor’s last as President of Ghana and he will be using the opportunity to thank his colleagues and bid them farewell. The Summit will focus on “Meeting the Millennium Development Goals on Water and Sanitation” and will be preceded by the 19th Summit of the Heads of State and Government Implementation Committee on the African Peer Review Mechanism. A number of countries, including Nigeria and Kenya are billed to be peer-reviewed at this summit. Togo will also sign on for future review. Other items on the agenda are the issue of Union Government for Africa and the global food and fuel crisis. The current electoral impasse in Zimbabwe is also likely to take centre stage.
