Regional Minister Inspects Projects In Akuapem South DistrictThe Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Kwadwo Affram Asiedu, yesterday inspected a number of development projects in the Akuapem South District.
The projects included LaGray Chemical Company, an integrated pharmaceutical manufacturing company, the Nsawam Women's Bakery Centre and a two-dormitory block for the Saint Martin's Secondary School at Adoagyiri, which is being financed by the GETFund. The Minister also inaugurated a six-unit teacher's accommodation block with a borehole constructed at a cost of 970 million cedis for the people of Ahyiresu and its environs. At the pharmaceutical company, the Regional Minister expressed his satisfaction with the establishment of such an important company in the District and the safe working environment for the workers. He described the establishment as a boost to job creation in the area and thanked the management for the foresight to improve the healthcare delivery in the country. Dr Paul Lartey, Chief Executive Officer of the Company, said he was motivated by the fact that 70 per cent of drugs used in West Africa were imported out of which 25 per cent were most likely to be adulterated. He said the company had the objective to break the country's dependency on the outside world for drugs to ensure that the best drugs were used in the treatment of ailments. At a durbar to climax the visit, the District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr Andrew Nyarko Adu called on communities to create land banks for development projects like schools, clinics and other facilities because the assemblies had no funds to pay for land. The Regional Minster gave an assurance that Government was committed to their well being and urged workers of the bakery to work assiduously to justify the resources put into the establishment of the centre and also to realise the objective and vision of the First Lady's in establishing the centre.
