Sodia Organises Parliamentary DebateA parliamentary debate has been organised by Social Development & Improvement Agency (SODIA) a non – governmental organisation, for all parliamentary aspirants of the various political parties to discuss issues from the economy and good governance in the Tano South District of the Brong Ahafo Region. Among the four Parliamentary candidates contesting for the seat, only two turned up for the debate. The parliamentary aspirants present are the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) candidate, Madam Josephine Ataah Opong and Prince Diawuo who stood in for the National Democratic Congress parliamentary aspirant. The candidates took turns to answer questions in areas such as education, agriculture, sanitation, job creation among others to convince the electorates to vote for them. Madame Ataah Opong of the CPP talking on education said if elected as the Member of Parliament the brilliant but needy students in the district will be given scholarships. To her giving students scholarships will motivate weak and drop - out pupils in the district to get serious with their studies. Answering the question, Madam Opong said when given the mandate she will modernise Bechem Vocational School, which has been left in Concerning agriculture in the district the CPP candidate promised of financing farmers to improve their living standard. According to her, farmers are important to the nation and as such must be given the necessary support. Madame Opong assured the women in the district that, when given the mandate issues concerning women and children would be her highest priority. As to transparency and accountability in governing the district, Madame Oppong said a committee will be formed to monitor the movement of the District Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament. She therefore called on the electorate to vote for CPP for a better Ghana. On the part of Prince Diawuo, who stood in for the NDC parliamentary candidate, Lawyer Agyemang Owusu, said if elected as the MP of the district, bad roads in the remote areas would be repaired to help convey the people to the district capital. Speaking on education, Prince Diawuo promised of working hand in hand with the District Assembly to extend the school feeding programme to other schools in the district. Concerning the usage of common funds, the NDC candidate promised his MP’s common fund will be used to develop and raise the standard of living of the people in the Tano South District. On issues concerning the youth, Prince Diawuo promised of employing more of the youth, under the National Youth and Employment Pogramme. assuring that when elected he will create more jobs and open youth training centres for the youth to help curb unemployment in the district. Prince Diawuo said if given the mandate, Lawyer Agyemang Owusu will involve the Chiefs and Elders in decision making process in the Tano South District. He said since Chiefs are the mouth piece of every community he will seek advice from them to help him during his term. He therefore called on the electorates to vote for the NDC for a better Ghana.
