Special Congratulatory Message Delivered By Hon. Mrs. Oboshie Sai Cofie- Minister For Information And National Orientation On The Occasion Of The 40th Anniversary Dinner Celebration On October 2nd, 2007

Mr Chairman,
Colleague Former Ministers,
Distinguished Guests,
Management and Staff of ATL,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Cha-Group Management,

I am very happy to be here this evening to participate in the 40th Anniversary Celebration of Akosombo Textiles Limited. Let me take this opportunity to congratulate, Mr Walters Exposito, who I fondly call Uncle Walter and his able staff for making us all proud.

We at the Ministry of Information and National Orientation are very grateful for your commitment in spearheading our quest to encourage patronage of made in Ghana products. By using cotton from the North, you are not only creating employment opportunities for our people, but you are also leading the campaign for us to eat and wear what we produce.

ATL is a household name in Ghana and we are very pleased that your relationship with the people of Akosombo, where your factory is located is that of mutual respect and goodwill. You have in the last 40 years employed Ghanaians and have also reached out to the community with scholarship schemes and infrastructural developments. You have also been very proactive with your corporate social responsibilities, especially when it comes to lending support to our men and women in sports and entertainment.
Let me indulge you in an initiative of ATL that is so dear to me. National Orientation talks about Patriotism and a Spirit of Ghana First, I am happy to share with you that Mr Walter Esposito and his team at ATL have created ambassadors of Ghana who have exhibited the true spirit of Ghana first through the Drumming Troupe. ATL has over the years sponsored and mentored these young and creative Ghanaians to greater heights in arts and culture.

Their recent show in Morocco during the Ghana@50 celebrations earned them accolades from our very own Busumuru Kofi Annan. He said they were the true ambassadors of Ghana and they made him proud during the celebrations in Morocco. Some of these young men and women you have sponsored, I am told are now graduates of University of Ghana, Legon and are contributing to society. This demonstrates your commitment to showcase Ghana through the fabrics and your charitable deeds on the international scene.

It is also heart warming to see your company expand into the ECOWAS sub-region to clothe more people with your beautiful and innovative fabrics. We are confident you will even expand further into other market zones in Africa.

Finally, I would like to extend our warm congratulations to you on your 40th Anniversary and wish you continuous success in the years to come. We look forward to celebrating your Golden Jubilee Anniversary with you.

Long Live Ghana and Long Live ATL.
