Women Urged To Vote For NPPHajia Alima Mahama, Minister for Women and Children Affairs (MOWAC) yesterday urged women to vote massively for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to continue its good policies for women and children.
She said the NPP government in its eight years of office has instituted numerous policies such as the School Feeding Programme (SFP), Free Maternal Care, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Capitation Grant and Micro Credit to cushion women and children. The Minister said this when she paid a working visit to traders at the Mallam Atta market and to solicit for their votes in the forth-coming presidential and parliamentary elections. She said, due to the various policies by the NPP government, school enrolment has doubled whiles women who went to deliver and are detained for non-payment of bills have become a thing of the past. Hajia Mahama further said that there has also been a growth of women participation in governance adding, "For the first time in the history of the nation, a female has been appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The number of female Ministers has increased to seven and 12 deputy ministers respectively". She called on the women to advise their wards not to allow any group of persons to influence them to engage in any violent activities that will hamper the peace of the nation before and after the elections.
