The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana, Ebenezer Twum Asante, made this known at the launch of MTN’s 15,000,000th Customer celebrations in Accra on Friday.

Mr Asante said the growth in MTN subscriber base was the result of a deliberate strategy coupled with substantial and sustained investment in network infrastructure.

He said MTN had made a total investment of US$2.5 billion, since 2006, in the expansion and modernization of its network.

He said MTN was the first in innovating several new initiatives in Ghana, namely, GSM technology, launch of Blackberry Service in 2008, introduction of 3G Commercial Service in 2009, launch of Mobile Money in 2009, introduction of Blade Cluster Technology, launch of a Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), building of an ultra-modern Switching and Data Centre and sponsorship for World Cup 2010.

Mr Asante said in 2014, MTN was honoured as the Best Tax Payer in Ghana while its sustained Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) investments of more than GHC 21 million in 102 major projects across the country, since 2007, had impacted on over three million people directly and indirectly.

He expressed gratitude to all key stakeholders of MTN—Ministry of Communications (MoC), National Communications Authority (NCA), Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications (GCT), Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEX) and Customers—  for the partnership and support in achieving the 15 million subscriber milestone.
