Nsawam Landfill Site Ready for Use E/R

The Nsumia waste landfill company has commissioned a new refuse disposal site in the Nsawam Municipality to reduce the pressure on the Kpone landfill site.

The facility which is located within the Nsawam Municipality off the Nsawam- Accra Highway would serve as an alternative solid waste landfill site for residents, particularly in western Accra.

The General Manger of the Nsumia Waste Landfill Company Limited, Mr Peter Kwasi Dagadu, said the strategic location of the facility would enable it to cater for the refuse collected from Accra and nearby municipalities.

The facility has been licensed by the Environmental Protection Agency to operate as a solid waste disposal site.

He noted the site had a size volume of about 680 thousand cubic meters and was set to receive a minimum of 80 refuse trucks per day, which is about one thousand tones.

Mr Dagadu, however, advised the public to be responsible and subscribe to waste collection services to guarantee that their waste ended up at the right location for efficient disposal.

The Nsawam- Adoagyiri Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Mark Dompreh Amoako lauded the commissioning of the new waste disposal site.

He said in the wake of the current outbreak of cholera, he believed that the facility was timely and would help clear the heaps of refuse usually in Accra and its surroundings.

He pledged the Assembly’s support to help maintain the facility.
