A District Management Team to oversee the activities of the Ghana Census of Agriculture in the Banda District of the Brong Ahafo Region has been inaugurated by the District Chief Executive, Madam Mary Konneh.


The four-member Team comprises Mr Gordon Domayele, District Co-ordinating Director (chairman), Mr Sebatstian Duut, District Planning Officer (Secretary), Mr William Biah, District Director of Agriculture and Mr Isaac Yeboah, District Information Officer (members).


In an address, Madam Konneh outlined the overall objective of the Census of Agriculture as— to produce and disseminate complete and reliable Agricultural data to meet the needs of policy makers and other users to support informed decision-making and for monitoring development programmes aimed at further developing agriculture and the rural areas.


The DCE added that the Census of Agriculture would specifically provide information on the rural sector and the structure of agriculture including number of holders and sizes of holdings and their distribution across the country, level of equipment and technology use, human resource availability, land tenure systems of agriculture holdings and data on food security and sustainable agriculture.


She enumerated a number of responsibilities of the Management Team which included co-ordination and implementation of the Ghana Census of Agriculture in the District; ensuring the provision of facilities for activities of the Ghana Census of Agriculture operations; ensuring effective education and publicity of the Ghana Census of Agriculture and resolving all problems relating to the Census of Agriculture operations, among others.


Madam Konneh said she had confidence in the Team due to the experience the members had garnered over the years in their respective fields.


She, therefore, charged the Team to creditably deliver on the task that had been assigned to them and urged them to contact her office whenever the need arose to enable them carry out their mandate effectively.


Speaking on behalf of the Team, Mr Gordon Domayele, Chairman of the Team, thanked the DCE for the confidence reposed in members and assured her of the Team delivering on its mandate to help improve agriculture in the District.
