About 100 persons drawn from the Bawku Municipality and its environs have attended a day’s workshop on improvement in the health and safety of all householder and communities. These persons are being trained as refresher trainers for Community Advocates (CA)
The workshop organized by the AngloGold AGA Mal Limited a Ghanaian Company, was aimed at identifying the major challenges facing the Community Advocates and Information Education and Communication Implementers (IECI) in the municipality and to bring the problems to the attention of the company for solution.
Addressing the participants, Mr. Yelewere Vitus Domevi, the Regional Zonal IEC Co-ordinator, said the workshop would enhance the IEC to create the awareness of high community acceptance, participatory levels improvement of the program.
Mr. Vitus also said that it would increase awareness and knowledge in malaria control to handle issues such as ignorance of the disease and the Malaria Control Programme (MCP). He said it would also enhance significant behavioural change through better communication skills in all communities.
He stressed the need for sensitizing community members on the mode of action of the insecticide used and its duration on the sprayed surfaces. Again she spoke on the safety of the insecticide and effects on walls, ceiling and furniture.
Miss Karima Alhassan Municipal Zonal IEC Co-ordinator, said the work of the Implementers was to assist the Municipal IEC Co-ordinator in carrying out IEC activities in the various communities.
She also pointed out to the Implementers to send out good information and education campaigns in schools, churches mosques, social gathering and other allied institutions.
She emphasizes the importance of disseminating information about malaria control programme through Information Centres in the communities and by the use of Mobile Information Van.
