Rural Women’s Groups Supported
The Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs in collaboration with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Gender Development Centre (EGDC), presented a cheque of $30, 000 to three (3) rural women’s groups engaged in food processing and agriculture.
The presentation of the cheque, which took place on the 19th May, 2012, was to help boost the economic activities of women in rural Ghana.
Workshop On Gender Issues
The Ministry took part in a workshop to strengthen the human resource capacity of Chief Directors of selected line Ministries on mainstreaming gender issues into national planning monitoring and evaluation.
The workshop was held at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) from the 14th – 18th May, 2012.
National Gender Policy
The Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs, held regional consultations on the draft National Gender Policy.
The consultations were to help collate views from stakeholders on the draft policy. The consultations which took place in five (5) regions namely Northern, Western, Volta, Ashanti and Greater Accra started from the 14th May and ended on the 29th May, 2012.
Violence Against Women
As part of efforts to ensure that issues of violence against women are handled properly, the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs issued a press release on the 17th May, 2012 on the increasing spate of violence against women.
The objective for issuing the press release was to sensitize the public on the need to report early warning signs of domestic violence to the Police rather than handling them as private issues.
Black Princesses Congratulated
A press release was issued by the Ministry on the 22nd May, 2012 to congratulate the Black Princesses for qualifying for the Women’s World Cup in Japan.
The achievements of the Black Princesses were highlighted and sponsorship was also solicited for them from corporate institutions.
