Kuwait Fund to Support MoE

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development would support the Government/Ministry of Education to build seventy five (75) schools as part of the on-going construction of 200 Community day Senior High Schools.

In fulfilment of this, a mission led by the Engineering Advisor of the Fund, Saud A. A. Al-Ammar has called on the Hon. Deputy Minister in charge of Tertiary Education, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in Accra.

The project would contribute to the provision of uninterrupted quality education by increasing access and efficiency of education in Senior High Schools (SHSs) in deprived areas of the country.

It will also renovate existing schools, build additional school facilities, improve teaching and learning as well as provide more viable alternatives to continuing education for Junior High School graduates.

Welcoming the delegation, Hon. Ablakwa noted that poverty alleviation and equity in education were core in increasing and improving school facilities. This, he said, would provide greater opportunities for pupils in accessing quality education.

The leader of the Kuwaiti delegation, Mr. Saud A. A. Al-Ammar, said his country would look into the demand for secondary education in Ghana to inform them on the areas that needed funding.

He noted that development of a country depended on education and health sectors because every country’s development thrives on these two most important sectors.

Mr. Al-Ammar said his country had already signed the legal draft bill of agreement with Ghana to kick start talks on the project.

The Chief Director of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Enoch H. Cobinnah, noted that the information required for the processing of the project was available and any additional information required for discussions would be made available for good justification of the project.

Mr. Al-Ammar was accompanied by Mr. Osama B. Dabbagh, Economic Advisor and Mr. Amin M. Shohatee Legal Advisor.

As part of the mission’s visit, the delegation will meet with the Ministry’s technical team and undertake a working tour to some CDSHS projects for first hand information.
