A regional stakeholders meeting of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has taken place in Tema.


The purpose of the meeting was to create a platform for the stakeholders to discuss and find solutions to the nagging issues that continuously came up in the course of working under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).


Addressing participants, Mr Lawrence Amartey, Greater Accra Regional Director of NHIA, called on service providers and subscribers to work in collaboration with the insurance authority in order to sustain the services provided.


Mr Amartey said the service provider, subscriber and the authority were each other’s keeper and that it behooved on the three to work collectively. He said the Authority had taken note of the fact that most service providers in the country were working very well to the extent of serving clients with expired NHIS cards.


The authority, he added, had also taken note of the practice whereby some providers extorted money from clients and tried to over-bill the authority when filing their claims of payment forms, adding that such units had been disaccredited.  


On the biometric registration of subscribers, he said subscribers now had the opportunity to receive their cards at registration points, while a new feature on the card, he said,  allowed client information to be stored electronically for emergency cases.


Touching on claims payment, Mr Amartey said even though the payment of claims sometimes delayed, the claims were eventually paid. He, therefore, called on services providers to bear with the shortfalls of the scheme..


In a presentation, Mr Collins Ntim, Claims Manager at the Claims Processing Centre of NHIS, took participants through the filling and submission of the client form, BMS authentication and generation of CCC code as well as omissions and commissions that lead to deductions.
