A group of women in the Greater Accra region has lauded President John Mahama for appointing Mrs Charlotte Osei as the first female to head the Electoral Commission.

The group said President Mahama has consistently demonstrated self-belief in women to effectively manage various sectors in the country.

Representatives of the Groups, after a march through some principal streets in Accra, presented a congratulatory message to the President through Nana Oye Lithur, the Minister of Children, Gender and Social Protection.

Madam Felicial Dzifa Tegah who read the message on behalf of all the women said they were motivated, encouraged and inspired by the courageous step and believe in the president's commitment to empower women in Ghana by appointing them into higher public office.

She noted that since President Mahama assumed office, he has continuously shown confidence in the capacity of women to effectively govern and lead various sectors of the country.

"We thank you Mr. President for the great honour done to women of Ghana,” she added.

Madam Tegah urged Mrs. Osie to show the world and the country how capable the Ghanaian woman is when it comes to managing sensitive issues such as elections and wish her well in her new appointment.
