Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho, has announced the establishment of a permanent police station on the premises of the State House to beef up security in the area.

The strategic decision, according to him, was taken by the leadership of the House to ensure  proper security in Parliament. Rt. Hon.  Adjaho announced this yesterday, in his welcome address when the House reconvened from recess to begin the 3rd Meeting of the 3rd session of the 6th Parliament of the 4th Republic. He said the building which housed the police station was released to Parliament by President John Mahama, who was once a member of the House.

The station, which is yet to be fully resourced, is sited near the western entrance to the State House. The speaker assured that, the new police station would soon be fully resourced to ensure that it functioned efficiently. He also announced the establishment of a Scrutiny Office, an independent body that will assist Parliament in the performance of its duties.

"The office of scrutiny will be fully operationalised by the end of this year," he said, adding that it's essence is provide  independent expert advice to assist the House and its committees in the discharge of their functions. He also mentioned that he had received a report on the review of the Standing Orders of the House and  ready to be laid before the floor of Parliament for consideration and approval by MPs. He expressed gratitude to Star-Ghana for their facilitation and sponsorship.

Hon. Adjaho also informed MPs of the establishment of Parliamentary Training Institute (PTI)  to facilitate the professional and leadership development of MPs and staff of the House. He urged the members to brace themselves up for the  meeting which, according to him, would be very hectic. Among the bills to be considered include the 2016 budget and financial policy of the government as well as the appropriation bill, he said.

Meanwhile MPs are expected to finally move into the Job 600 office complex Tuesday.
