JUMIA GHANA MARKS SECOND ANNIVERSARY OF E: COMMERCE IN GHANA

Jumia Ghana, a part of the Africa Internet Group and the biggest online shopping platform in the country, is celebrating two years of providing customers with an excellent online shopping experience in Ghana.

 

 

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the company is giving its customers up to 75 per cent discount on all items from now until April 7, 2016.

 

Funlola Abe, Managing Director of Jumia Ghana, who made these known at a news conference in Accra, yesterday, said the company was using the occasion of the second anniversary to honour its customers, partners and employees.

 

Ms Abe described the company as the leader in online shopping, adding that Jumia Ghana did not only provide customers the luxury of shopping from any location, but also delivered goods purchased at the doorsteps of customers and on time.

 

The company, she said, could also boast of assorted brands on its website and top-notch customer service.

 

She disclosed that Jumia, since its launch in Ghana in 2014, had pioneered e-commerce in Ghana and attracted huge foreign investment leading to a rise in the industry's contribution to Ghana's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and pledged to ensure that the online success story of Ghana revolved around the Jumia story.

 

Ms Abe said Jumia had raised more than US$326 million from Goldman Sachs, an investment bank of the United States of America, AXA, a French Insurance Multinational and MTN, a South African Telecommunications giant, among other investors.

 

She said Jumia, as part of a larger ecosystem of companies supported by the Africa Internet Group (AIG), was the leading e: Commerce platform in Africa with a presence in 11 countries and a network of companies including Carmudi, Easy Taxi, Everjobs, Hellofood, Javago, Kaymu, Vendito and Zanda across 23 African countries.

 

She said since the beginning of its operations in Africa in 2012, the company had transformed the way African consumers shopped by offering them the opportunity to buy everything including fashion items, consumer electronics and home appliances online.

 

In his remarks, Mr Daniel Glover of Techno Ghana disclosed that Techno Ghana had entered into partnership with Jumia Ghana on the development of e: commerce.

 

Mr Glover said the partnership had yielded positive results due the effectiveness of the Jumia Platform in e: Commerce.
