SOCIAL SECURITY AND NATIONAL INSURANCE TRUST SUPPORTS GHANA BLIND UNION

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has presented a cheque valued at thirty-five thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC35, 000.00) to the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Centre of the Ghana Blind Union (G.B.U.).

Mrs Victoria Gifty Abaidoo, Customer Service Manager and Acting Corporate Affairs Manager of SSNIT, who presented the cheque at a ceremony in Accra, yesterday, said support for the vulnerable in society was one of the Trust’s Corporate Social Responsibility agenda.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Centre, Dr Peter Obeng-Asamoa, Executive Director, G.B.U. expressed gratitude for the support which, he said, would be used to acquire teaching materials and equipment for the blind and partially-sighted.

Dr Obeng-Asamoa said the training of the blind and partially-sighted in ICT was making a tremendous impact on their access to higher education and well-paid employment.

He disclosed that since 2001, the ICT Centre of G.B.U. had trained 600 blind and partially-sighted persons.

He said the major challenge of the Union was the lack of resources and urged other corporate institutions to emulate the example of SSNIT.
