HELP BUILD OUR CAPACITY TO ENHANCE OUR WORK COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN APPEALS TO ITALIAN GOVERNMENT

Hon. Frank Anno-Dompreh, Chairman, Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, has appealed to the Italian Government to assist in the capacity building of Members of Ghana’s Parliament (MPs) to enhance their work.

Hon. Anno-Dompreh made the appeal, last Friday, when the Italian Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Giovanni Favilli, held discussions with members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs at Parliament House in Accra on matters of mutual benefit to Ghana and Italy.

He said building the capacity of MPs would improve their capabilities to match the current legislative regime in the august house.

He commended Italy on the successful implementation of Phase I and II of the Ghana Private Sector Development Facility (GPSDF), with talks already underway by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOTI) for an extension of the facility to Phase III, to help boost the private sector in the drive to promote the country’s economic development.

Ambassador Favillii noted that even though he was satisfied with the collaboration between many Italian investors and their Ghanaian counterparts in the construction and real estate sectors, he was looking forward to further existing opportunities in other areas of Ghana’s economy.

Ambassador Favillii identified the industry and manufacturing sector as areas requiring closer collaboration whereby Italy could support the mechanized transformation and processing of Ghana’s primary agricultural products and other raw materials for exports.

In a statement, Hon. Dr Clement Apaak, Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, said co-ordination between both countries on how to develop the cultural and tourism industries from prehistoric times to the present would go a long way to boost the tourism industry of Ghana.
