The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) has received donations from 2 more companies― Society General Ghana, and Collighana― towards this year's National Farmers Day celebration.


The donation, the second in a series of presentations, is to support preparations towards the 33rd edition of the National Farmers’ Day celebration.


Collighana presented a cheque of eleven thousand Ghana cedis (Ghc11, 000.00), farm inputs and equipment worth six thousand, eight hundred and fifty Ghana cedis (Ghc6,850.00) while Societe General Ghana presented a cheque of thirty thousand Ghana cedis (Ghc30,000.00).


Receiving the donations on behalf of the Ministry at a ceremony in Accra, yesterday, Hon. George Oduro, Deputy Minister for Agriculture in charge of Horticulture, expressed government’s appreciation to the private sector for their annual support to farmers.


Hon. Oduro thanked the donors and appealed to other individuals and organisations to emulate the example of the two organizations and extend support towards the farmers Day celebration.


The 2017 National Farmers’ Day celebration, which will be held on the theme: Farming for Food and Jobs is scheduled to come off on November 24, 2017.


As part of activities marking the celebrations, there will be an 8-day Agricultural show and a durbar to climax the celebrations on the 1st of December 2017 in the Ashanti Region.


Farmers Day is set aside every year by government to honour farmers and fishers who feed the nation, provide raw materials for industries and earn foreign exchange for the country.


H.E. the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will be the Guest of Honour at this year’s Durbar.
