THE MINISTRY OF REGIONAL REINTEGRATION AND DEVELOPMENT PROPOSES BUDGET OF GH¢ 3,888,970 FOR THE YEAR 2018

The Ministry of Regional Reintegration and Development has proposed a budget of Gh¢ 3,888,970 for the year 2018 in addition to the Gh¢773, 250 which has already been disbursed to facilitate the processes and modalities involved in the creation of new regions.

 

The amount, Mr Dan Botwe, Minister for   Regional Reintegration and Development, said, would enable the Ministry to conduct Stakeholder Sensitization Workshops and Socio- Economic Surveys to deepen the knowledge and understanding of various institutions including the Western, Volta, Brong Ahafo and Northern Regional Houses of Chiefs and the relevant Departments and Agencies under the auspices of the Western, Volta, Brong Ahafo and Northern Regional Co-ordinating Councils.

 

Mr Botwe said, the budget, to be implemented under Goods and Services, would facilitate the conduct of Information, Education and Communication Programmes in collaboration with Information Services Department (ISD) and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

 

He was responding to a question from Ras Mubarak, Member of Parliament, on how much the creation of the new regions would cost the tax payer across the country.

 

He established that the expected expenditure of the Commission of Inquiry, which had been tasked to establish the need and the substantial demand for the creation of the new regions and make recommendations to the President, in line with Article 5 (4)of the Constitution after six months, is under the Office of the President.

 

In a response to a question by the Minority Leader,  Mr Haruna Iddrisu, on the terms of referendum and the places where the referendums should be held, Mr Dan Botwe who is also the MP for Okere Constituency indicated that these would be determined by the Commission of Inquiry.

 

Meanwhile the House has approved the sum of Gh¢ 3,262,720 for the services of the Ministry of Planning, Gh¢ 32,799,500 for the services of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Gh¢ 61,380,673 for the services of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Gh¢ 914,397, 412 for the services of the Ministry of energy and Gh¢75,279,119 for the services of the Ministry for Tourism, Arts and Culture.
