SG Cancer Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization, has presented 7500 copies of Information Leaflets/Educational Brochures on Blood Cancers to the Haematology Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).

The brochures contain educational information on blood diseases such as Leukaemia, Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma and Sickle Cell Disease. There is also another brochure titled Getting rid of cancer.

The presentation formed part of the Foundation’s efforts to create awareness on blood cancers.

Ms Elsie Enninful-Adu, Director, SG Cancer Foundation, who made the presentation on behalf of the Foundation in Accra, last Friday, said SG Cancer Foundation worked with hospitals which treat cancers to support awareness creation on blood cancers and early detection, leading to prompt medical attention.

Ms Enninful-Adu said the Foundation readily agreed to sponsor the printing of the brochures upon a request for support from the Haematology Department of the Hospital because SG Cancer Foundation realized that there was limited information on cancers which made it difficult for patients to access medical treatment.

Through the brochures, therefore, she said, information on cancers would be disseminated to 7,500 persons.

Dr Amma Benneh-Akwasi Kuma, Acting Head, Haematology Department, KBTH, who received the brochures on behalf of the Department, expressed gratitude to SG CancerFoundation for the kind gesture.

Dr Benneh-Akwasi Kuma expressed the hope that the collaboration between the Department and SG Cancer Foundation would help create the needed awareness on blood diseases, not only for patients, but also for the families of patients, their friends and the nation as a whole.
