Zabzugu District Assembly Announces Massive Development Plan (N/R)

The Zabzugu District Assembly has awarded contract for the  construction of a three- unit classroom block, office/store and four- seater KVIP and urinary at Woribogu, and a similar facility for Zabzugu Senior High School.

 

Plans are also underway for the construction of a six-unit classroom block, office, and other ancillary facility for Rajia D/A Primary School and a three-unit class room block and ancillary facility at Mongoase D/A Primary School.  

Mr Issifu Alidu Laa-Bandou, District Chief Executive (DCE), who made this known in an interview with Ghana News Agency at Zabzugu yesterday, said a reproductive and child health centre would be constructed at  Zabzugu Township, whilst  CHPS Compound would be provided at Gor Kukani.

He said the Kworli CHPS Compound would be rehabilitated whilst Ojoja would be provided with the health facility. 

He said the District Assembly in collaboration with UNFPA would organise community sensitisation durbars in six new communities such as Tasundo no. 1, and Tasundo no. 2, Binambado, Mongoase, Ojoja and Suburini, in order to discuss the outcome of maternal death audits and to promote timely referral of women with pregnancy complications within the District.

There would also be half yearly maternal death review meetings with 50 stakeholders to identify strategies to reduce maternal death in the District. 

 “Radio discussions in local languages on Gmantambo FM will be organised in order to sensitise the public on obstetric fistula, causes, management and prevention,” he said.

Mr Laa-Bandou said 40 peer educators in 20 new communities would be trained to provide community-based comprehensive sex education including HIV prevention to adolescents and young people, while three -unit nurses’ quarters would be constructed at Zabzugu Hospital.

Under infrastructural development street lights would be provided at Zabzugu market, a culvert would be constructed on the road leading to Kukpagu Health Centre, while electricity would be extended to newly developed areas of Zabzugu Township and other communities.

The DCE said the second phase of the Street Naming and Property Addressing exercise, which came as a Presidential directive to all metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies, would be pursued this year. 

The DCE said the Zabzugu water system being sponsored by government and IDA under the Sustainable Rural Water and Sanitation Project would continue, while the assembly intends to rehabilitate 20 boreholes, construct six institutional latrines with hand washing facilities in three primary schools and one in Zabzugu Hospital to help achieve open defecation free objective  in the district 

 “The district is constructing five unit police accommodation at Zabzugu and has the intention to construct one police post at Kworli.”

Mr Laa-Bandou said in order to facilitate women empowerment, the district in collaboration with NGOs would carry out sensitisation on the dangers of teenage pregnancy and rural urban migration. 

The district would also conduct training on business management and basic book keeping and link active women groups with micro financing institution for credit assessment. 

Sustainable rural livelihoods training would also be provided for 25 women in gari processing and 30 women in soap making in order to empower them economically.
