MCE CAUTIONS RESIDENTS AGAINST ONLINE INVESTMENTS SCAMS

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Techiman, Mr John Kofi Donyina, has cautioned residents against online investments scams.

Addressing  the media at Techiman, Mr Donyina  made it known that many people in the Brong Ahafo Region had been duped last year by fraudulent Micro Finance scams such as DKM, JESTAR, GOD IS LOVE and Little Drop, among others.

He said there was a group of persons within the Techiman town collecting various sums of monies from the unsuspecting public, the Modus Operandi of the group was almost the same as that of DKM and the rest.

He stated that the only difference was that they collected deposits from their clients through Mobile Money and promised them to double the amount in two (2) weeks’ time through their mobile money accounts.

Mr Donyina mentioned another scam which was on-going at the Taxi Ranks in the Municipality whereby  the group collected GH¢5 from taxi drivers on daily basis with the promise to give them brand new cars to use as taxis on work and pay basis.

The MCE made it clear that persons behind the fraudulent practices had not registered with the Assembly, neither did they pay any tax to the Assembly and warned that they would be investing in any of the groups at their own risks

He, therefore, urged the media to partner with the Assembly in their quest to sensitize the general public about the activities of the two (2) groups.
