The Minister for Regional Reorganization and Development, Hon. Dan Botwe, has paid a working visit to schools in the Akuapem South and North Municipalities to familiarize himself with the progress and challenges associated with the implementation of the Free SHS policy.

The Minister was accompanied on the tour by the District Chief Executives for the Akuapem North and South, Honourables Dennis Aboagye and Frank Aidoo, and the Municipal Director of Education, Grace Owusu Addo.

The visit was to afford the Minister, who is also MP for Okere Constituency in the Akuapem North Municipality, the opportunity to critically assess the challenges militating against the smooth implementation of the policy, with the view to addressing them.

The first school of call was the Aburi Girls Senior High School where the headmistress took the entourage round the school to inspect some ongoing projects funded by GetFund which were at various stages of completion.

The Minister also visited the Adonten SHS, and the Aburi Senior High and Technical School where boarding accommodation and the lack of space cited as their major challenges.

The team also visited schools in the Akuapem North Municipality, namely Mampong Presbyterian Senor High, Methodist Girls Senior High School, the Adukrom Senior High Technical, Nifa Senior High School and the Hark Mount Sinai Senior High School where the challenges were not different— inadequate boarding facilities and stalled projects which if competed would help increase the intake of students.

The Minister and his entourage finally visited the Okuapemam Senior High School, Benkum Senior High School and the Larteh Presbyterian Senior High School.

In all the schools visited, the Minister entreated the school authorities to distribute the school uniforms to students as soon as they got enrolled.

In an address and the end of the tour Hon. Botwe, said the visit was as a result of a directive from the President to all cabinet Ministers to go round the schools in their areas of jurisdiction to learn at first hand the challenges that had bedeviled the schools and to report back to him.

He gave the assurance that with time the challenges associated with the Free SHS implementation would addressed.
