WORK ON ROAD PROJECTS IN THE EASTERN REGION PROGRESSING STEADILY

Mr Eric Kwakye Dafuor, Eastern Regional Minister, and officials of the Department of Urban Roads and the Regional Co-ordinating Council have embarked on a second phase of road project inspection and monitoring in the region. 

 

The Department of Urban Roads is undertaking the rehabilitation of about 150 km of town roads across the municipalities and some districts in the region as part of the road maintenance programme. 

 

The inspection of the urban roads projects took the team to the New Juaben Municipality, the Akuapem North Municipality and the Okere District. 

 

The road project monitoring team first inspected ongoing works on the Asphaltic overlay and sectional repair works on the 8.7km Nana Asafo Adjei Road in the New Juaben Municipality where the scope of work involved road line markings and 50 mm thick asphaltic wearing course overlay. It was executed by Messrs Justmoh Construction Limited at the contract sum of GH₵27,447.302.70. 

 

From there, the team visited the Akuapem North Municipality and were joined by the Mr Dan Botwe, Minister for Regional Reorganisation and Development and Member of Parliament for Okere Constituency. They inspected the Amanprobi bypass road which is being upgraded from the existing gravel to bituminous surface to allow traffic to go around Akropong towards Mamfe and Koforidua without going through the congested central business district. 

 

The next project of inspection was the 2km Abiriw town roads in the Okere Constituency which are being upgraded from the existing earth roads to bituminous surface and to significantly improve the poor drainage conditions which pose a serious threat to the life of residents along the project corridor. The contract, to be completed in 12 months, is being executed by Messrs Memphis Metropolitan Ltd. at a contract price of GH₵ 3,491.350.39.     

 

The team moved to the site of the 2.5km Awukugua town roads which is being upgraded from the existing earth roads to bituminous surfacing alongside drainage works. 

 

The monitoring exercise continued to the 3.50km Apiredi-Adukrom main road involving drainage works and bituminous surface upgrading at a contract duration of 12 months and a contract price of GH₵5,194.449.00. It is being executed by Messrs Memphis Metropolitan Ltd. The team also inspected the 2km partial reconstruction of Apiredi town roads. 

 

The last point of inspection was the 10 km rehabilitation of some selected roads in the New Juaben Municipality to improve connectivity, accessibility and mobility. The scope of work consisted of drainage works and bituminous surfacing. The contract duration is 12 months at a contract price of GH₵15, 263.477.31. It was executed by Messrs Kasmo Company Ltd. 

 

In an interview with the Regional Minister after the monitoring, he expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and said he was certain that the road projects would be completed by the end of the year.
