20,000 CASHEW SEEDLINGS DISTRIBUTED TO FARMERS IN THE TECHIMAN NORTH DISTRICT

In line with Government’s policy for rural development under the Planting for Export and Industrialization, Mr Peter Mensah, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Techiman North, has distributed 20,000 crafted cashew seedlings to 250 farmers in the District.

The crafted cashew seedlings are an improved variety, with a shorter period of maturity, compared to the local breed.

At the forum to distribute the seedlings, Mr Mensah disclosed that the Techiman North District had adopted cashew farming as one of the major vocations to help boost the local economy.

He said under the cashew project, farmers would receive the seedlings free of charge and also benefit from technical advice.

He, therefore, urged farmers to take the project seriously for their own benefit and that of the country as a whole.

In his remarks, Mr Paul Tolong, District Director of Agriculture, gave the assurance that the seedlings, having undergone a series of technical analysis, would produce improved yields and good harvest.

On his part, Nana Kwasi Daniel, Chief of Atresu and the National Best Cashew Farmer in 2015, commended government for providing what the farmers needed—seedlings and technical advice.
