Bono Regional Minster Seeks Media Support

The Bono Regional Coordinating Council has called on the media to support it to fast-track the development of the region.

Mrs. Evelyn Ama Kumi Richardson, the Bono Regional Minister, who made the call at her maiden encounter with the media, said effective collaboration, cooperation and partnership with the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) on the implementation of government policies and programmes could accelerate the development of the region.

Mrs. Richardson noted that her vision was tied to President Akufo-Addo’s vision of developing Ghana beyond aid, that is, a Ghana that has dedicated itself to self-reliance mentally to rid itself of dependence on aid, charity and handouts.

The Minister said the media was a major contributor to the socio-economic and political development of the nation and therefore, it was necessary that the government had regular interaction with them to facilitate the flow of information.

“I would need the support of the media to achieve this mandate through educative and informative programmes and feedback for us to know where there are lapses in order to find remedial measures to address them,” she noted.

Mrs. Richardson observed that talk shows and radio discussions on the airwaves were fraught with intemperate and foul language. She, therefore, impress upon the management of the various FM Stations to ensure sanity on the airwaves.

On positioning the Bono Region for investment and development, the Minister said there was enormous tourism potential in the region and requires the right leadership and effective collaboration among state actors to attract the needed investments in the sector. “I will provide such leadership by facilitating interactive platforms between the district assemblies and the Ministry of Tourism, to assess the economic viability of the numerous tourism potentials identified for possible public-private partnerships,” she emphasized.
