Districts Attend A One Day Workshop On Accelerating Sanitation And Water

Three Districts in the Upper East Region have been selected to attend a one-day workshop on sensitization on Water Resources Conservation and Catchment Protection (WRCCP) for sustainable water supply in Bolgatanga. The three districts were Bolgatanga, Bawku and Kasena/Nankana Municipals.

 The workshop was organized by the WRC in collaboration with the Government of Netherlands and UNICEF partnership in West Africa.

A team of officials from Water Resource Commission led by Executive Director, Mr. Frank .O. Annor, moderated the workshop. He explained that “the success or otherwise of every district or country depended on the drive and quality of the professional skills it had.  

Mr. Frank said quality Water and Sanitation was most important for every society or country and that determined the success of its development.  He added that the objective of the project and workshop was to influence national development strategies and sectoral plans, budgeting instruments, cross-sector strategies and functional and technical capacity building.

Mr. Frank said the project was supported by the Netherlands Government and UNICEF to give access to safe water to over 500, 000 people in 5 Regions in Ghana.  He also urged District /Municipal Planning Officers to find mechanisms to mainstream water, sanitation and climate resilience when putting up their Composite Budget, to enhance future development or better standard living of their people or the nation as a whole. 

The workshop was attended by Planning Officers, Environmental Health Directors, Forestry Department, Environmental Protection Agency, Town and Country Planning and Information Services Department.
