This, according to him was significant because the churches have a key responsibility towards the provision of social amenities, especially in the communities in which they find themselves.

Mr Amoah made the call at a Town Hall Meeting at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region. The event was organized by the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission.

To enable citizens to play important roles in deepening decentralization, Mr. Amoah said that they had to take active part in order to prevent apathy and disconnection in the whole system.

He commended the Obuasi Catholic church Diocese for instituting the programme and urged the participants to take advantage of the opportunity to quiz their leaders on matters of concern to them.

The National Secretary for the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission, Mr Gabriel Nyarko, explained that the objective of the Meeting was to bring governance to the doorsteps of the people to deliberate on issues pertaining to development.

On his part, the Obuasi Municipal Budget Officer, Mr. Jacob Adu said the Assembly was committed to providing a congenial environment for businesses to thrive and appealed to people to participate actively in the decentralization process.

Even though the Assembly had been affected by the closure of Anglo-gold Ashanti, he assured that it would work assiduously to maximize revenue for the development of the Municipality.
