28 February Christiansborg Crossroad Shooting Commemorated

The 70th anniversary of the February 28 Christiansburg Crossroads Shooting incident has been commemorated in Accra.


The ceremony is an annual event held in memory of the sacrifices of all Ex-Servicemen who were killed, trying to present a petition to the colonial Governor at the Osu Castle on February 28, 1948, by the colonial police .


The occasion was graced by the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Osei Opare, Minister for Defence, Mr Dominic Nitiwul, National Chairman of the Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG), Major-General C.D. Yatse (Rtd) and Traditional leaders, among others.


Five wreaths were laid; the Vice President laying the first one on behalf of Government and the people of Ghana; Lieutenant-General Obed Acquah on behalf of the security services; the National Chairman of VAG on behalf of VAG, Osu Mantse, Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona I and a Representative of Sgt. Adjetey’s family on behalf of the fallen soldiers.


There was a re-enactment of the February 28 crossroads shootings incident by the Actors Guild to  enable the students and young people feel the experience the event.
