The Chief of Staff, Office of the President, Mrs. Akosua Frema Opare, has officially cut the tape on Monday to open the refurbished Ministry of Information Press Center in Accra.

The 68-capacity center is equipped with a media box, acoustic lighting, stage light, camera stand, feeder, and a sound box. It also has 8-part HDMI Splitter, Fire Box, Alarm control, fire alarm, Public address system, fully air-conditioned, digital television and a waiting hall for guests.

She described the refurbished center as an important tool for the government to disseminate information effectively and efficiently. Apart from providing information for the media with expended modern facility, the Chief of Staff noted that it would make the work of the media easier.

According to Mrs. Frema Opare, it is important for the Ministry and the Information Services Department (ISD) to have a comfortable setting as provided by the center to roll out their policies and programmes.

“As a government, we need to recognize the important role that the Ministry plays in the development of the nation and for that matter, the government sees the need to provide the requisite tools to enable it to perform its mandate,” she said.

She indicated that building and managing information with the media is quite complex and therefore it is important that the Ministry becomes more vibrant in order to roll out government policies effectively.

In this direction, Mrs. Frema Opare intimated that the “ISD needs to be strengthened so that information would not be limited to those in the cities.” She further announced the government’s plans to provide cinema vans for the ISD to promote programmes and policies across the country.

Earlier, the Minister for Information, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, noted that the refurbished press center is geared towards supporting and promoting good journalism. He underscored the fact that the refurbishment was one of the many initiatives by the government to revamp the Information Ministry and the ISD to perform their functions.
