Mr Kwesi Ahwoi, Minister for food and Agriculture (fifth from left) presents the outboard motors to Nii Mator III.
Those with them include Mr. Ofosuware (left), Nii Amasa Namoale (second from left) deputy Minister of Agriculture at Nii L aryea Afotey Agbo, Greater Accra Regional Minister.
This was at the presentation of 95 outboard motors to the Tema Landing Beach Committee for distribution to fishermen to facilitate their trade.
Making the presentation, Mr. Ahwoi said the gesture was in reponse to the fishermen’s request to government to make inputs available to them at subsidized prices as had been done for crop farmers.
The minister said the outboard motors were sold in the open market at GH 8,000 but the consignment being sold to the fishermen had been imported by the Agriculture Development Bank at a landed cost of GH 6,000 and the government had to subsidized it at about 30 per cent.
