| Government Provides Adequate Financial Resources For District Assemblies |

Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Elvis Afriyie Ankrah Government has provided adequate financial resources for the smooth take-off of the 46 newly-created Assemblies from the District Assemblies Common Fund, Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has announced. Speaking during a visit to some of the newly-created districts at Pusiga, Binduri, Builsa and Nabda in the Upper West Region, and Nandom and Daffiama Bussie Issa in the Upper West region,Hon. Ankrah said a seed capital of one million Ghana cedis had been allocated to all the newly-created District Assemblies for their infrastructural development while five million Ghana cedis had also been set aside to enable them start their developmental projects. He noted that decentralization was essential for development and appealed to the chiefs and people of these two regions to support and co-operate with the newly-created Assemblies to ensure their efficient and effective administration. He explained that the aim of creating of the District Assemblies was to create a platform for the people in the region to better appreciate the governance system so as to take active part in decision-making to ensure good governance at the grass root level. Mr Ankrah, therefore, pledged government’s continued support to the new District Assemblies both financially and logistically to enhance speedy development. In his remarks, the Bawku Naba, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka 11, commended government for creating more districts for its environs which, he said, would accelerate the development of the area. He appealed to government to work on their roads which were in a deplorable state and provide the people with irrigation dams to encourage farming and sustain the incomes of the youth in the area. In his response, the Member of Parliament for Garu Timpane, Hon. Dominic Azumbe Azumah, said the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) was introduced by government to bring hope to the people of the Northern Ghana. Hon. Azumah disclosed that government had handed over 100 farm tractors to farmers to support their farming activities under SADA to help realize the northern sector agriculture development dream of assisting about 16,000 farmers within the SADA operational zone.
