As part of Government’s commitment to build a better Ghana through Science and Technology, the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology (MEST), has distributed free Laptops to 22 beneficiaries in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana. The laptops are assembled in Ghana by rlg communication under the Better Ghana ICT Project and the project is a collaboration between the government and rlg to make the learning of ICT accessible to Ghanaian students. 

Speaking during the presentation, the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Ms Sherry Ayittey tasked the beneficiaries to make effective use of the computers.

The Minister said the promotion of the study of Science and ICT would help propel the development of Ghana to a higher level and added that any information under the sun could be found on the internet and therefore teachers and students should apply the computers to benefit their lot.

“There cannot be effective study of Information Technology in schools without the needed support, we really want to make the study of ICT among our students much easier with these laptops” she said.

For his part, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, called on the beneficiaries to set goals and work towards them.

He said government was committed to enhancing the learning abilities of students, especially the study of science and technology in schools and the presentation was therefore important to achieve that.

A beneficiary, Victoria Boatemaa of the Ridge Experimental School, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the government and rlg for the wonderful gesture and said they would also use it wisely for their own good.

She added that she was elated to have received one of the rlg laptops, saying it had come at the right time to help in their studies.
