The Dr Robert Mitchell Memorial Foundation (RMMF) last Friday launched a childhood cancer fund to provide quality health care to childhood cancer patients. The Fund is also to provide financial assistance for the treatment to patients and support the needs of their families.

The Nkusukum Traditional Council in the Mfantseman Municipality has launched the celebration of the Odambea Festival at the Nankesedo (Saltpond Lower Town) in the Central region.
The week-long festival will be celebrated by 20 towns and villages comprising the Nkusukum from Sunday 19th August to 26th August 2012. The Festival, like many other festivals in Ghana, is celebrated in the last week of August during the beginning of food harvesting to signify hooting at hunger and to commemorate the achievements of their ancestors.

A Member of Council of State, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, has appealed to the youth to emulate the examples of senior citizens who in diverse ways contributed to the development of the nation.
Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi, who is also the President of the Central Region House of Chiefs, urged the youth to use their exuberance to champion development of their communities instead of engaging in destructive activities.

The Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Nii Ephraim, has appealed to Senior Citizens to impart their rich expertise to the youth to help them become productive. Nii Ephraim made the appeal at a reception of the Assembly organized for Senior Citizens in the area to commemorate Republic Day. Five of them were honored for their outstanding contribution towards the growth of the area and were given a full piece of wax print each.

The Central Regional Minister, Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe, has said the shift system was an impediment to forcing children to go to school.
Speaking at a meeting of queen mother’s from Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area at Gomoa Assin, she said the shift system was encouraging children to play truancy.
