The Akuapem North District Chief Executive, Mr George Opare-Addo has appealed to the people of Akuapem to unite for the development of the area and to safeguard the good image Akuapem is noted for. He said Akuapem over the years was known for quality education, morality and respect but due to chieftaincy conflicts and other occurrences those attributes were diminishing.Speaking at a durbar to climax the Ohum festival of the chiefs and people of Mamfe Akuapem in the Eastern Region, Mr Opare-Addo appealed to chiefs in Akuapem to resolve issues that had affected the chieftaincy institution, adding that, with one accord they could stamp out vices that were eroding gains of Akuapem. He said quality education that was dear to the heart of Akuapem had sunk to the doldrums and many children in the area were not in school whiles those in school could not perform well. Mr Opare-Addo cited the Basic Education Certificate Examination results over the years and said they had been bad. He said the government was committed to developing all sectors, particularly education, to impact on the human resource base but the government in doing that needed a united front led by the traditional authorities and expressed the hope that Akuapem would lead the way. The Mamfehene, Nana Ansah Sasraku, appealed to the people to unite as one people with a common destiny for the development of Akuapem.
