The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Victor Smith, as part of his regional tour to familiarize himself with the ongoing biometric voter registration exercise, yesterday, visited two polling stations in the Yilo Krobo District. He was accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Andrews Sodah and some heads of departments. The officers in charge of the exercise briefed the minister on the processes and stated that the registration was going on smoothly. At the Djaba road polling station for instance, the officer in charge stated that the daily registration so far was between 150 and 165 people. Meanwhile, prior to the Minister’s visit, the Information Services Department (ISD) visited about three polling centers and with the exception of the Oterkporlu polling station which experienced some difficulty with its printer and made registration for two days impossible, there was no serious problem experienced so far in the district. However, when asked how the two days lost of the Oterkporlu polling station will be made up for, the District Electoral Commissioner (EC), Madam Patience Baddoh said she had reported the case to the Regional level and any decision in that regard would have to come from the above. ISD also sampled few opinions from the public on the exercise so far and all those spoken to who had already taken part in the exercise expressed their satisfaction. It was however, observed that people were not really rushing to register, but rather waiting to do so later. Source: ISD (Dennis Yao Akoetey, Yilo Krobo)
