He said that it takes a special leadership to lead the party in power for the Better Ghana Agenda. He said this when he addressed NDC party stalwarts during its eighth (8) National Congress in tamale recently. Mr. Rawlings reminded delegates that the party’s leadership affects the nation in total; therefore executives must rise up to the expectations of the country. “Our conscience to do what is right must be the over-riding influence in every decision we take”, he added. President John Evans Atta Mills in a message re-assured that even though the party faces challenges, principles of Listening, persevering and acting will renew the party’s mandate in the year 2012. President Mills stated there are no factions in the party and added that the congress was a sign of unity within the party. The Vice President John Dramani Mahama pointed out that poor level of communication make it difficult to agree as a nation.
The occasion which brought together about 2000 delegates both from the local and international scene was used to elect new National Executives according to Article 23 clause 4, and also to give a new image to the party in the 2012 victory declared the National Chairman, Dr. Kwabena Adjei. Nine positions were contested for after a Resolution of Congress was read out by the chairman of the Steering Committee Alban Bagbin, the Resolution contained the party’s quest for job creation, investing in people through the principles of truthfulness, honesty, probity and accountability. With the highest votes, Mr. kawbena Adjei maintained the seat as the National Chairman, former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and five others won the Vice Chairmanship positions. Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia also maintained the sea as the general secretary, assisted by Mr. Kofi Adams as the deputy general secretary. Propaganda secretary went to Mr. Richard Quashiga, National Organiser was given to Mr. Yao Djan.
