The Miss Excel plus Road Safety Project for Children has been launched in Accra with a call on all Ghanaians to support a worthy cause.

Under the project, Lawrentia Abena Wurah, Miss Excel Plus 2012, will be travelling across all the regions of Ghana to educate school children on the dos and don’ts of road usage.

Speaking at the launch, the Managing Director of Excel Plus Productions, Mad. Ami Amewude, condemned the horrid accidents on the country’s roads and urged all Ghanaians to support efforts to curb them.

Mr Kwame Etuahene, Communications Director of the National Commission on Road Safety (NCRS), in an address, noted that road safety should be everyone’s concern.

Mr Etuahene said the NRSC was supporting the project with teaching and learning materials on road safety and urged all stakeholders to support the project, noting that more funds would be required if the project should succeed.

For his part, Alex Obeng, Deputy Superintendent of Police of the Motor Traffic and Transport Union, (MTTU) in charge of education, said the roads were meant to improve lives and not to truncate them.

DSP Obeng commended Miss Excel 2012 for the initiative, adding that sensitisation on road safety was an important step in curbing road accidents.
