The East Mamprusi District Assembly has held its 1st ordinary section for the year 2010. The meeting brought together 36 assembly persons, the District Chief Executive, Heads of decentralised departments and traditional authorities.
In a welcome address, the presiding member, T.I. Sandown entreated all assembly members to take the business of the house serious since it is the place where major developmental decisions concerning the district are taken.
The District Chief Executive, Hon. Imoro Adam in his sectional address commended the security agencies in the district for their relentless efforts towards peace keeping in the district. He however called on all members to bring their hands on deck to ensure absolute security for the district.
On projects, the DCE said, the government has begun rolling out some programmers in order to make life better for the ordinary Ghanaians. According to him, the government has under the free school uniforms programme allocated 1,048 pieces of already sewn school uniforms which have been received and distributed. In addition, 2000 pieces of pre-cut uniforms have been received to be sewn in the district for onward distribution.
In recognition of the significance of the environment to sustainable development, the DCE indicated that government has embarked on new afforesting programme. He added that the district is to acquire 300 hectares of land and so far fifteen thousand, (15,000) seedlings have been nursed in the district for this programme. The DCE also assured farmers that, the fertilizer, subsidy will continue to help farmers increase their yield.
Speaking on projects implemented for the year 2009, the DCE indicated that, the district assembly’s sources of funding for project include, DWAP, NORPREP, DACF, and CIFS.
In all, 22 major projects were started in 2009. According to him, about 90 per cent of the projects are completed and in use by the beneficiary communities.
On the performance of the internally generated fund, the DCE said, there have been much improvement even though much needs to be done, he said as at April, 2009, the assembly had received only 36 per cent of its annual estimate for 2009 but as at the same period this year, the Assembly had received about 44 per cent of its annual estimate for IGF.
In a report presented to the house by the District Mutual Health Insurance Manager, Mr. Sulemanah Elijah, he stated that, the scheme has so far performed very well due to the hard work of the few staff. According to him, the scheme has paid all its providers their claims up to March and its working hard to finish payments for subsequent months. Mr. Elijah however said the scheme is bedevilled with problems of getting land to put up a standard office accommodation. He therefore appealed to the DCE to use his office to support them get land.
