Italian President In Accra For State Visit

Italian PresidentItalian President Giorgio Napolitano yesterday afternoon arrived in Accra to a rousing welcome for a three-day state visit. He is accompanied by a 37-member delegation made up of Ministers and senior Government officials.As the Italian Presidential plane touched down at the Kotoka International Airport at exactly 16:50 hours, President John Agyekum Kufuor, who was on hand to receive him, moved to the foot of the aircraft.

Nine-year old Rosemary Abrafi-Twum of the Hecares Academy in Accra presented the Akwaaba Bouquet to Mr Napolitano, after which, President Kufuor escorted him to a saluting dais erected in his honour.

The Military Band then struck the national anthems of Italy and Ghana, while the traditional 21-gun salute boomed at the background.

President Kufuor thereafter introduced the Italian President to the welcoming party, which included the Chairman of the Council of State, Ministers, Senior Government Officials and the Diplomatic Corps.

President Napolitano would hold bilateral talks with President Kufuor at the Castle, Osu, today. Later in the day, he would visit Ghana's Parliament, the Ohene Djan Stadium and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park
He returns to his country yesterday after a tour of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.
