Minister Of Chieftaincy And Culture
Hon S. K. Boafo, the Member of Parliament for Subin Constituency and Minister of Chieftaincy and Culture, was born on 1 st September, 1942 in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
He had his Primary and Secondary Education at Bantama L/A School in Kumasi and Konongo Odumase Secondary School respectively between 1948 and 1963. After his G.C.E. Ordinary Level Education in 1963, he left the shores of the country for London where he studied Costs Accounting at the North Western Polytechnic in Camdenton. Mr S. K. Boafo gained admission to the Tottenham Technical College also in London in 1967 where he had his Advanced Level Certificate.
Hon. S. K. Boafo in 1968 gained admission to the University of London where he read a Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB). He graduated with Honours degree in Law in 1971 after which he was called to the English Bar at the Inner Temple in 1972 and then to the Ghanaian Bar in 1973. Thereafter, he started practicing as a lawyer by establishing the S. K. Boafo and Co, Gye Nyame Chambers in Kumasi and in Accra .
Lawyer S. K. Boafo served on a number of Legal Bodies both locally and internationally. He was elected the National Secretary of the Ghana Bar Association from 1982 to 1985. Hon Boafo practiced law at Lincoln 's Inn from 1987 to 1992 where he was appointed Part Time Crown Prosecutor.
Hon Boafo's Political carrier started in 1977 when he was appointed the Councilor of the Asante Akim District Council as Youth Representative. He was elected as the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South Constituency during Ghana 's
3 rd Republic from 1979 to 1981 during the revolution period. He served as the Vice Chairman of the Committee on Labour, Social Welfare and Cooperatives and also Vice Chairman of the House Committee of Parliament.
In 1981, during the PNDC Administration, Mr Boafo was made to taste the other side of politics by being imprisoned for three (3) months after which he left for exile in 1985 to the United Kingdom where he had a deeper encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mr Boafo was elected a Member of Parliament for Subin Constituency in 1996 and was made the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament and again, won the 2000 Parliamentary Election in the same Constituency. He was appointed Ashanti Regional Minister on the 14th February, 2001 . He held this position till 2006 as the Longest Serving Regional Minister in Ashanti when he was again appointed as the first Minister for the newly created Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture.
As a man of God, he is the founder of the City Temple International, with branches in Ghana , United Kingdom , Kenya and other parts of the world. He is also the founder and President of the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship and Chairman of Ghana National Prayer Breakfast Committee. Hon Boafo was once the President of the World Bible College .
