His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor, President of Ghana, arrived in Kenya on Tuesday, 8th January, in his capacity as Chairman of the African Union to explore with leaders of the political parties, ways of resolving the crisis arising from the recent Presidential and Parliamentary elections in the country.

After extensive consultations with all the parties, they agreed on the following;

An immediate cessation of the violence as well as any acts which may be detrimental to finding a peaceful solution to the ongoing crisis.

Resort to dialogue, under the auspices of the African Union, in search for a lasting political solution to the crisis in Kenya.

The parties agreed to work together with a Panel of Eminent African Personalities headed by Mr. Kofi Annan, immediate past Secretary-General of the United Nations, towards resolving their differences and all other outstanding issues, including Constitutional and electoral reforms.

President Kufuor appealed to all Kenyans, as well as the friends and partners of Kenya to collaborate with the AU to support the process of dialogue and reconciliation and to ensure the restoration of peace and stability which are prerequisites for the continued promotion of sustainable development in the country.
