G8 Summit To Consider ICT, Energy in Africa

Energy and the closing of the digital gap, should be made Africa's top priority agenda at the upcoming June Summit of the Group of Eight Industrialised Countries (G8) in Germany, President John Agyekum Kufuor, Chairman of the African Union (AU), has advocated. He said there should be no doubt that the development of the infrastructure for affordable power supply and Information Communication Technology (ICT) would lead to rapid growth of the continent's economies.

AU Chairman Rallies Support For Common Pan African Fund For Development African Union Chairman,
President John Agyekum Kufuor has called on his colleague African leaders to back the setting up of a common Pan African Fund for infrastructure development on the continent. The Fund would help to provide seed money and counterpart funds to attract credit lines from development partners for implementation of specific projects.

Kufuor President J. A. Kufuor and his Portuguese counterpart, President Anibal Cavaco Silva, have underscored the need to revive historical links and strengthen the bilateral relations between Ghana and Portugal.Speaking to the press at the end of their close-door bilateral talks in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon yesterday, the two leaders said it was important for the two countries to deepen their historical bonds and co-operation between Africa and Europe.
